Think outside the jewellery box

I have just completed my major work for the Bachelor of Design course at COFA. My project, titled “Think outside the jewellery box,” was an exploration and celebration of the possibilities of recycling second hand items. I created 5 necklaces that are made from 95% recycled jewellery and other items found at Vinnies stores . By using my skills in jewellery and textile design I have recycled, re-used and re-designed the items into completely new pieces of jewellery.

I deconstructed and altered the unwanted and broken items, then by collating and locking all the new pieces together I have given each one a new life and image. Each item has become recycled for life as I hope the new necklaces’ will become valuable and sentimental and will find a home in someone’s jewellery box for many years to come.

The 5 necklaces will be up for auction from 9/12-19/12
All proceeds will go to Vinnies and will help people in need in the local community. The funds will go towards the 2011 Christmas appeal and you’ll be helping to provide services which make a real difference to people’s lives.

Collaboration with Laura Poole for the I.D. Emerging Designers show

Recently I had my first official collaboration with a fashion designer. Laura Poole, a recent graduate of UTS Sydney’s Fashion Design course excelled with her graduating collection and was selected amongst just 3 other Australians to show her range at Dunedin Fashion week in New Zealand in the Emerging Designers show.

I designed and made 8 rings to compliment the colours and shapes of her fabulous collection. I made 2 nickel rings and 6 copper rings as seen in the photo below.
